Why HTM?

I was involved in ASB all four years of high school. It was truly my safe space and my favorite memories from high school. I was heavily involved in the planning of Homecoming, which is really full circle considering I was the one who coordinated all of the student-facing Homecoming events in the fall of 2022 here at SDSU. ASB helped me discover my passion for event planning and project management, even though I didn’t quite understand what that meant back then. I really like that events bring people together. I enjoy coordinating all aspects of an event and seeing it all come to fruition. I love that I don’t do the same thing every day. I think these are all unique qualities to the hospitality industry. Being in this program, and my experience as a programs assistant during my senior year have helped me decide that my passion for events truly lies in the academic programming setting. I can’t imagine doing anything else. I have almost 5 years of experience now and love planning events for students.

Some of the ways I have demonstrated my passion for HTM:

Green Love Events Committee Co Chair

My first year on campus I joined Green Love, which is the sustainability commission. I wanted to be a voting member so I joined the events committee. I worked with my co-chair to plan our 6 events for the year, all with different themes and goals. We planned everything from a keynote speaker event to a community garden tour. At the time, this was a great experience and really allowed me to explore my creative side when it came to coming up with ideas for the events.

Meetings and Events Student Association Event Manager

My second semester on campus, I joined MESA, one of the student organizations within the Payne School. I met lots of great friends and had a great time planning events for our students. This was great experience working on a big team and executing events in short windows of time.

Aztec Student Union Board Programs Assistant

My final year on campus, I got a job as a programs assistant for the Aztec Student Union Board, coordinating events for our Student Union. This has truly been the best experience and a great way to put to practice all of the knowledge and skills I have gathered throughout my time here at SDSU. I have gained so much hands-on experience and have more faith in my capabilities than ever. I even got promoted at the start of the spring semester and have loved the growth my new role has brought me.
