MY FINAL PROGRESS REPORT
GREENFEST 2023

As the Senior ASUB Programs Assistant for the Aztec Student Union Board, I had the pleasure this semester of coordinating all events during GreenFest week. GreenFest is a committee that focuses on sustainability, diversity, and SDSU Pride and hosts a week long of events in the spring of each year. I started planning for GreenFest back in August of 2022 and had been working on putting together the week of events for almost 9 months. As a programs assistant, it’s my job to take the ideas that the student volunteers have for events and execute it, from vendor outreach to being on-site on the day of. This was my main focus for the spring semester and a project I take great pride in.
Back in August of 2022, the GreenFest committee was just getting started, throwing out ideas of events they would like to see. I helped by compiling a list of past event ideas and what worked well and what didn’t. In the planning phase, I met with each of the student chairs to get an idea of what they wanted to see for their event. In the implementation phase, I reached out to vendors and other school organizations to coordinate all the aspects of the events. Then, right after spring break it was go-time. We had 7 events in just 5 days and everyone was so excited to see their ideas come to life. After the week of events, we made sure to evaluate what went well and how to improve for next year.
One challenge during GreenFest was that my supervisor and advisor was out of town chaperoning the NCAA Men’s Basketball finals. She flew a group of students to go cheer on our Aztecs at the final four and championship game. I was worried about being able to execute the first few events without her guidance and support, especially on-site. I decided to make a plan for the week and just trust that I had it all under control. The first two days of the week went smoothly, considering I was on my own. On Monday of that week we hosted a Sustainable Career Fair and had 40+ local vendors coming to table, and I had to coordinate all of their arrivals and check-in. My goal was to take it day-by-day and I think all of my training and experience up to this point helped me be able to handle the situation. When my supervisor arrived back during the middle of the week she thanked me for stepping up and congratulated me on successfully starting the week without any issues.
